One of the most popular genre of books nowadays is the YA or the Young Adult which mostly tackles heightened lives of teenagers. Together with this genre is the Dystopian which tackles post-apocalypse stories. Mix 'em up and we got post-apocalyptic stories with teenagers as its protagonist/s.
Personally, I don't have a favorite genre. One day, I would read a Pulitzer-prized novel and then I'll be reading vampire stories, then I'd follow it up with Jane Austen or Twilight or whichever fancies me at that moment. But, today I'll be sharing some of my thoughts about my TOP 5 YA books and why I loved them so much that I would recommend it to everyone. So, here's the rundown:
- 1. Eleanor and Park by Rainbow Rowell
Oh, the feeling of first love, first holding hands, first hug, first kiss and first identity crisis... Wait? What? Eleanor and Park's story will ring familiarity in each and every one who has experience falling in love. How I love going back to that first date and how everything feels so light and liberating. Okay, we're not talking about me..
The story is all about the not-so-typical, red haired protagonist named Eleanor and an asian, outcast-but-not-really named Park. When their lives clashed and eventually collided they found themselves clinging to each other for love and support, but not the way you already know. Their lives, especially Eleanor's, are tangles of mess and hidden family problems. Will their love conquer all? Oh, I'm not going to spoil you guys. Read it and swoon... and yes, be ready to cry. Don't tell me I didn't remind you.
- 2. The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky
Dear Friend, I know sometimes you feel like you're alone and that no one really sees you. I know what you feel because sometimes I feel it too. I know that we all have secrets and that sometimes it's easier to be friends with new people because they won't judge you like the old ones do. I know you feel lost most of the time but it's okay, you'll be fine. I sincerely hope that after you read my story, you'll find courage and hope that someday it will get better. Love, Charlie(kidding, it's just me)
- 3. The Fault in Our Stars by John Green
You can tell me that TFIOS is overrated and I would probably look at you and say, "pain demands to be felt, wanna feel it?" I mean, I'm not being violent or something but this book MUST. BE.READ. I mean, come on! It is readable, emotional entertaining and yet profound! Who wouldn't fall in love with the too-good-to-be-true Augustus Waters and be inspired with Hazel Grace Lancaster's bravery. You can whine all you want but TFIOS deserves all its glory and ya haters gonna hate because even Taylor Swift and Ed Sheeran's okay-okayed already.
- 4. All the Bright Places by Jennifer Niven
This is the newest baby on this block. I bought this last January and read it on February because I was saving it for some days I would be able to grope all of it. And then, one thing led to another and I was crying heaps on the floor and screaming, "This is not gonna ruin me!" but it did. And yes, this story is too much to handle especially if you can relate to any of the two lead characters named Finch and Violet. I loved all of it, I swear! I'm going to reread it again! Again, I'm not a spoiler but Finch's such a bastard shattering my heart like that. I was mad at him for so long and I couldn't forget about him until now. I think, I'm going to eat chocolate for a while to make me feel better. Bye!
- 5. The Book Thief by Markus Zusak
Last but not the least(actually the best as of this time of my life), is The Book Thief! Oh, man. I seriously cannot contain why I love this book. It's actually the reason why I continued to read and write. Dated during Hitler's reign, Liesel Meminger explores life as she learns how to read, write, love and understand the world. Some say it's not YA but it's YA, she's a teenager guys, it's YA.
So, there! That was my list of my favorite YA books as of the moment. What about you? How about you share your thoughts about them or just simply recommend something new. I'll see you guys in a bit, bye!
